Introduction to Accreditation Standards Version 12
Programs applying for COAMFTE accreditation are required to meet or exceed current Accreditation Standards throughout their period of accreditation. As of July 15, 2014, COAMFTE has completed its most recent review of the Accreditation Standards. In preparing each draft and the final version, COAMFTE paid special attention to the fast-changing needs of today’s highly diverse society with a goal to ensure that programs prepare students to be culturally aware, competent and systems-oriented therapists, researchers, and educators able to meet the needs of today’s world. To further ensure excellence in MFT programs, COAMFTE formed the Standards Version 12 to include a combination of input-based criteria (Eligibility Criteria) and output-based standards (Program Outcomes and Student Learning Outcomes).
Effective January 1, 2016
The Accreditation Standards Version 12 is in effect as of January 1, 2016. COAMFTE will evaluate that each program demonstrates compliance at the time of the program’s next initial/renewal evaluation that takes place after January 1, 2016.
Please note that, starting with the program’s 2016 Annual Report, programs will now be required to demonstrate compliance with the Maintenance of Accreditation criterion. This will require the programs to report, on an annual basis, ongoing fiscal and physical resources; ongoing evidence of student/graduate achievements; and prior notice of any substantive changes the program wants to implement.
COAMFTE has published additional forms and resources related to the new Standards Version 12. These include the forms and resources necessary to submit a Self-Study and to maintain accreditation. All the new forms for Standards Version 12 are available on the Accreditation Resources and Forms page along with a short description for each. The forms below have been recently published for Standards Version 12 and will be updated in future cycles as we receive feedback from programs and Commissioners.
